AGM Dinner & Show 23 Aug – Just a few tickets left @ $45

August 7, 2007

(NB $50 if booked after 9th August – call 562 7200 or daysbay@southlight.co.nz)

We’ve had many folk calling to tell us more about early days in the Bay, plus lots more photos are being unearthed.  Bill Wollerman lent me a lovely old negative of his grandfather’s house at the corner of Moana & Marine. I just had to show this to Mark & Shelley Wilson who built their home in the same spot.

John Butt took a special interest in this photo from the “History of Eastbourne” book  when he realised that the picture of our “Home Guard”  could have been taken from his lounge, as was the recent one.  The once sandy beach has become quite rocky since 1945.  Maybe the council could learn from Auckland’s eastern beaches where the sand has been put back after they too built a wall to hold up the road and the wall started to decay from wave action
