Don Long caught up with local resident Graham Dick, who well remembers his young childhood running around Williams Park. Graham’s grandfather Bill was the custodian of the Park and “force to be reckoned with” for over 3 decades before retiring in 1947.

As promised, the brand new wharf shelter has been installed and just awaits the glass roof. It’s an “Adshel” unit, similar to the current bus shelters. The DBRA has been assured that there will be no advertising on this shelter.

Rescue for Marine Drive

Hutt City Council has recently announced that the long needed solution to the beach erosion on Marine Drive has been allocated $70,000 in the current 2007/2008 budget. The Days Bay Residents Association has continually been reminding Council about this problem and even the new CEO has written to us to confirm this project.

Construction has been scheduled for April/May 2008

Letter from ECB – recently received from Eastbourne Community Board deputy chair Ian Young, dated 12 June 2007 –

Greetings to all Bays Resident Associations and our Community Constable.
You may not have heard directly from ECB for a while because of the domination of the Secession related activities, the submissions we made to the 10 year Council Plan now on our website www.eastbourne.huttcity.com , our ECB led activities with other boards working with some councillors to identify better ways of working together.

We have also been involved in identifying the “green areas” which should be designated official reserves and finding out how other Boards and Councils work effectively. In the meantime other activities go on. One positive new proposal has come from Hugh Walcott. That is the idea of broad fun games for the Bays and Eastbourne. as a special event. Hugh has spoken to ECB , Rotary and Lions all of whom consider the idea has real merit and are willing to give support. Derek Wilshere will be supporting the concept for ECB. Hugh has set up a special email address for this activity at eastbournegames@yahoo.com

I have personally known Hugh and his family for the past 20 years and since his return from overseas with his wife Charlotte [ and now a daughter ] have kept in close contact as they settle into Eastbourne living and upgrading their home near the village. Hugh approached me over some community fun games he had experienced in a community like ours in Sydney and from that his idea has grown which he would like to share with you for your reaction.

Hugh has asked for and I have given him the Associations contact emails that I have. If they have changed would you please email me younged@xtra.co.nz so I can update. In the meantime I ask you to pass on email from Hugh to any new contacts. If you have any questions about the other activities please ring or email me or any ECB member or check the our website www.eastbourne.huttcity.com
